September 30, 2016

Anna Claire,

Papa had the great honor in participating in your Baptism this past month.

Here are the words I spoke to you:

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly here:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing,
Embody me.

Flare up like flame
and make big shadows I can move inn.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.

Rainer Maria Rilke: Book of Hours, Love Poems to God

Then I wrote this:

Anna Claire,

May the light of God warm your spirit and awaken you to the great knowledge that

You are a child of God

You live and move and have your being in this light unaware.

May the inward grace of this baptism awaken you to this life & light of God in you.

Anna Claire Coleman,

I Baptize you in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

I love you Anna Claire.
